Match Review LS19 | Penang FC 1-1 Selangor FC | The #RedGiants And The Panthers Share Points

Selangor FC took home a point from the Penang City Stadium after a 1-1 draw against Penang FC in the 19th match of the 2024/25 Super League yesterday.

Ronnie Fernandez had earlier put Selangor FC ahead with his goal in the 10th minute of the match after receiving a pass from Quentin Cheng. In the exchange of attacks, Haiqal Lau made several attempts from outside the penalty box before he was injured and was taken off in the 41st minute and replaced by Fazly Mazlan.

The second half began with two substitutions; Mukhairi Ajmal and Sharul Nazeem were replaced by Alexander Agyarkwa and Harith Haiqal to add strength in the midfield and defense. Not long after, Harith Haiqal managed to clear the ball from Adib Ra’op’s dangerous attempt on the left side of the Merah Kuning goal.

The match continued until the 96th minute where Penang FC almost scored a goal but Fazly Mazlan managed to throw his body to prevent the ball from going in. However, in the 100th minute, Penang FC were awarded a penalty kick after Safuwan Baharudin tried to clear the ball, but his attempt made contact with Alif Ikmalrizal's foot, which was seen as a foul, then Rafel Victor converted the penalty. Luck was not on the team's side, the match ended with a 1-1 result.

According to Selangor FC Head Coach, Katsuhito Kinoshi, the team was not satisfied with the draw.

"We were never satisfied with just one point, and we must learn from this draw. Our target is always to secure three points, and we need to have adapted better to the weather, particularly in the second half. With that said, we must now focus on the next match and aim for a good result for the fans, to repay their support," Kinoshi stressed.

So far, Selangor FC remain in second place in the 2024/25 Super League with 39 points from 12 wins, three draws and three losses. In addition, 31 goals have been scored from 18 matches that have taken place.

Next, the team will face Penang FC again, but this time at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, for the second leg of the 2024/25 Challenge Cup Semi-Finals on 2nd February at 9pm. Get your tickets here.
